Live Show with Paul Holes and Small Town Dicks

On November 4th 2018, the team of Small Town Dicks appeared in their first ever live show at the Death Becomes Us true crime festival. While Detectives Dan and Dave remained concealed off-stage on mics, Yeardley and Zibby sat down with investigator Paul Holes to interview him on his 24 yearlong investigation into the Golden State Killer case. The Golden State Killer was one of the most prolific predators in U.S. history. He was a serial killer, rapist, and burglar who committed at least 13 murders, more than 50 rapes, and over 100 burglaries in California from 1974 to 1986. This is a recording of that live show which was produced by D.C.’s Brightest Young Things and held at the Lisner Auditorium in Washington D.C.

No Good Deed

On a routine visit to check on his elderly father, Murray, Paul discovers him laying in his bed. Dead. Murray had a history of falling, so it’s possible his death was an accident. But the unusual position of Murray’s body on the bed prompts Paul to call 9-1-1. Fan-favorite, Lt. Scott, returns to Small Town Dicks with a case about a string of bad decisions that lead to the deepest form of betrayal. All for the price of some marijuana and donuts.

Wolf

Joseph and Valerie head out of town for a weekend getaway, leaving their two children – ages 9 and 7 – in the care of a close family member. But just a half hour after leaving town, Valerie realizes they forgot something at the house. They decide to turn around and go back for it. It’s then that Joseph walks in the front door and comes face-to-face with a parent’s worst nightmare

45 Seconds

Molly was a senior in high school. Trevor was her slightly-older boyfriend who’d already graduated. While Molly was well-liked and social, Trevor was more of a loner and could be possessive. It was the source of their on-again-off-again relationship. One night, as the two walked home from a party thrown by several of Molly’s friends, a car full of passersby placed a frantic 9-1-1 call to police, then found themselves rendering aid to Molly as she lay bleeding on the sidewalk.

Presumed Guilty Pt. 2

Multiple accounts of a single crime, countless provable lies, and very little evidence in a convenience store robbery-turned-murder leave law enforcement scouring for answers. In this two-episode case, Sgt. David returns to Small Town Dicks to tell us how he ended up solving this murder eight years after two men had been convicted and imprisoned for the crime.

Bait and Switch

When a drug deal goes wrong leaving one victim at death’s door and two armed suspects on the run, this Small Town police department draws on their “mutual aid agreement” with neighboring agencies to help set up an extensive perimeter and conduct the manhunt. They call in K-9 handler, Justin, and his four-legged partner, Fedo, to assist. If you’ve ever doubted that a police dog can perform in ways above and beyond his human counterparts, this episode will make you a believer.

The Protégé

Lt. Scott returns to fill us in on the details of Francisco, the equally-depraved trainee of corrupt cop, Robert from Season 1: THE SOCIOPATH AND THE WHISTLEBLOWER. As Lt. Scott tells us, Robert may have been the initial focus of the Internal Investigation at his Small Town police agency, but it soon became apparent that Francisco was taking everything Robert had taught him about preying on vulnerable women –and perfecting it. This is the story of the protégé.

Stalked

Yeardley shares a personal story of being targeted and stalked at a time in her career when her success and notoriety as an actress were starting to get some much sought-after traction. Brought up to assume she can handle whatever comes her way without asking for help, Yeardley quickly finds herself in over her head. Zibby, Detective Dan and Detective Dave help her unpack the details of this cautionary tale.

Monster Pt.2

It was a sunny afternoon in August of 2008, when this Small Town police department began fielding multiple 9-1-1 calls from alarmed residents in a quiet neighborhood just outside of town. The callers told dispatch they had just witnessed what appeared to be the kidnapping of a ten-year-old neighborhood girl as she rode her bike. This triggers multiple agencies in the area coming together in a frantic effort to catch the kidnapper before he disappears with his victim forever.

If These Walls Could Talk Pt.2

A husband breathlessly calls 9-1-1 to say that he just arrived home to find his wife dead of a gunshot wound. As the 9-1-1 operator immediately dispatches officers to the scene, she tries to get as much information as she can from the husband about what happened. But his odd behavior during the call raises some serious red flags. Lt. Scott returns to Small Town Dicks with another shocking case that involves clandestine recordings, suspect interviews, and good old fashioned detective work.

Girl For Rent

Sgt. David and his officer-in-training are working the graveyard shift on a cold winter night when they scout out an abandoned lot in their small town that’s a well-known spot for illegal activity. As they approach, they see a car with its lights off and two passengers inside: a man in his 50’s and a young girl seated on the passenger’s side. Though there’s no crime in just sitting in your car, Sgt. David has a gut feeling that something is very wrong. What he discovers is even worse than what he suspected.

The Protégé Exposed

The following contains a recorded phone call and interview between Lt. Scott and Officer Francisco, where Francisco offers up the details of his illicit sexual encounters while on he was duty. For the full context of this audio we highly recommend you listen to The Sociopath and The Whistleblower (season 1) first, and then The Protégé (season 2).

The Team Tackles Proust

The Proust Questionnaire was made popular in the late 1800’s by the French novelist, Marcel Proust (though he didn’t invent it.) Back then people used to play it at parties as a parlor game. They felt like your answers to these questions revealed your true nature. Vanity Fair magazine made the questionnaire popular again by putting it on its back page every month. So we thought it’d be fun if the Small Town Team played this iconic parlor game, too.

The Sociopath and the Whistleblower Part 4

This is the chilling story of a man who, as a police officer, took his police department’s solemn oath to be guided by professionalism, integrity, courage and honor. He also promised that his behavior would meet his department’s standard of honesty and accountability. Then, for 10 years, he patrolled the community, gaining its trust, while simultaneously victimizing those he knew would be too afraid to speak up.

Dead Man Walking

Sonja had filed for divorce from her husband, Roberto, and taken out a restraining order against him due to his violent tendencies towards her and their two children. So when Roberto doesn’t show up for court and Sonja doesn’t show up for work, police are dispatched to the house where they encounter the couple’s oldest daughter yelling that her father has a gun and is going to kill her mother. Detectives recount the hours-long stand-off and its impossible ending.

Keep Out

Emma was a 24 year-old woman who had recently become engaged and was renting a room at her friend, Bill’s, house when Doug showed up. Doug was Bill’s cousin and had been given permission to stay, temporarily, in the detached garage. He was a heavy drug user with a criminal record, and he gave Emma the creeps. That was just one of the reasons Bill had made it clear to Doug that he was not allowed in the main house where Emma was living. But Doug didn’t listen.

What Robert doesn’t realize is that the lieutenant is recording their conversation and he already knows much more than Robert thinks he does.
